About the Partnership
The Spring Creek Watershed Partnership consists of stakeholders -- individual citizens and representatives of local governments, businesses and community organizations invested in the quality of water in the Spring Creek Watershed. This watershed area covers portions of Grimes, Waller, Harris and Montgomery Counties in the state of Texas and is home to a number of cities and townships including Magnolia, Pinehurst, Stagecoach, Tomball, and Oak Ridge North as well as large portions of The Woodlands and Spring. Spring Creek, the stream segment that receives flows from all other tributaries in the watershed, forms the majority of the border between Harris and Montgomery Counties and ultimately drains into Lake Houston--an important source of drinking water for the region.
High levels of fecal waste, low levels of oxygen and a number of other concerns threaten the quality of water in Spring Creek and its tributaries. Local members of the Spring Creek Watershed Partnership work together to identify and implement voluntary, feasible solutions to address these water quality challenges based on sound science and community insights.
Decisions made by the Spring Creek Watershed Partnership will result in the development of a Watershed Protection Plan supported by technical information and assistance provided by the Houston-Galveston Area Council, the Council of Governments for the 13-county region, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the lead state environmental agency. Watershed Protection Plan development is funded by a Clean Water Act 319(h) grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
